In the rail system, the railway fish plate is an important part that connects the two rails together. In practical application, we most commonly produce the following three types of railway fish plates:
1. Bolted rail joints
2. Compromised rail joints
3. Insulated rail joints
For rail fish plates, bolted connections are often used to join the rails together before welding. When connecting two rails with different sections, a compromise fish plate is often used. Insulated rail joints are often used as bonded or non-bonded joints.
Although the performance of these three rail joints is different, they still have many similar characteristics:
Use all bolts and rebar and create discontinuities on the running surface of the rail
This discontinuity accelerates rail degradation around rail joints when the train is running
