Rail guage rods can be divided into non-insulated gauge rods and insulated gauge rods, both of which include single-ended gauge rods and double-ended gauge rods.
Non-insulated gauge rod
The single-ended gauge rod has a hook on one end and a single claw with a nut and a spring lock washer on the other end.
The double-ended gauge rod has two jaws, two nuts and two washers at its ends.
Insulated gauge rod
Insulated gauge rods can be used on railway tracks with signals or wherever electrical insulation is required.
A pair or iron claws at both ends of the double-ended gauge rod clamp the rail base to fix the rail for measurement and keep the rail upright to resist wheel pressure.
