90-pound rail or 90-pound rail is defined by the Association of American Railroads (or ARA). The ARA sets the standard from 60 lb/yd (4.96 kg/m) in increments of 10 lb/yd (4.96 kg/m) and from 60 lb/yd to 100 lb/yd (29.8 to 49.6 kg/m). 90 pound rail is also a profile recommended by AREA (American Railroad Engineering Association). This is a type of rail sold mainly in the North American market.
