Spikes in railway used to fix sleepers on rails. They play an important role in ensuring the stability of the railway. The obvious characteristics of railway spikes are the eccentric head, flat blade tip and chisel, which make the spikes not easy to loosen.
Types of Spikes in Railway
Rail spikes come in various shapes for different functions. Among various railway spikes, dog spikes and screw spikes are the most common types.
Dog Spikes:
Dog spikes are used to fix T-shaped railway tracks on wooden sleepers. Dog spikes have an L-shaped head and a square handle. The underside of the head is inclined to fit the top surface of the rail base. Kingrail Parts provides railroad spikes of various sizes to meet the different requirements of nail penetration length. Common rail spikes are 5/8”*6” and 9/16”*5-1/2”, which are used for smaller rail parts. They are usually fixed in 200-pound kegs or 50-pound kegs.
